Dan is a former DUI prosecutor with over twelve years of experience handling DUI and other criminal cases in Seattle, Tacoma, Olympia and throughout Western Washington.
Dan attended the Seattle University School of Law with the goal of becoming a prosecutor and began his legal career with the Skagit County Prosecutor’s Office, where he handled several jury trials before graduating cum laude from SU. After passing the Bar, Dan continued working as a prosecutor for four years in Federal Way and Pierce County, handling hundreds of DUI cases.
Over time he realized that, despite a solid conviction record, he was more in tune with helping the accused than prosecuting them. He went into private practice, founding Gerl Law PLLC in Seattle, focusing on DUI defense, criminal defense, and plaintiffs’ personal injury. In 2015 he moved the office to Tacoma, rebranding the firm as Puget Law Group (now Puget Law Group LLP).
Dan is rated a “10” on AVVO, its highest rating. He is a member of the Washington Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the Washington State Association for Justice (“Eagle”), the Washington State Bar Association, Citizens for Judicial Excellence (CJE), the Tacoma-Pierce County Bar Association, and the National College of DUI Defense. Dan is licensed to practice law in courts throughout Washington in both State and Federal Court.
Dan served on the Board of Directors with Athletes For Kids from October 2014 through January 2017. Dan enjoys spending time with his wife and two boys, 11 and 5, and helping to coach his son Johan’s youth sports teams. With apologies to our largely Seahawk fan client base, Dan is a lifelong proud (and season ticket holding) LA Rams fan.
