Zannie became invested in social justice issues associated within the criminal justice system early on in her career. She graduated cum laude from the American University Washington College of Law. She was honored with a J.D. Distinguished Fellowship, and spent a year handling felonies at The Defender Association (TDA) in King County. At TDA, Zannie worked as a public defender in the Civil Commitment Unit, representing more than two hundred clients over the course of eight months, winning cases both before the superior court as well as on appeal.
For the last several years, Zannie has handled a mixed caseload of felonies and misdemeanors and has successfully earned her clients dismissals, reductions in charges, and immigration safe resolutions for undocumented clients and legal permanent residents.
Since joining Puget Law Group in October 2016, Zannie has expertly handled complex sentencing motions, motions to compel the prosecutors’ witnesses to hold them accountable, and successfully convinced judges to throw out her cases for unconstitutional stops and seizures. Her advocacy and determination has saved her clients decades of incarceration.
